Under ₹50,000 you are buying a machine for study and office work, and the mistakes are predictable: people pay for a discrete GPU that cannot game and skimp on the screen and the SSD, which are what they touch every day.
What to look for under ₹50,000
Skip the entry-level discrete GPU
An MX-series or 2GB discrete card at this price adds cost and heat for performance modern integrated graphics already match. Put that money into RAM and the display instead. If you genuinely need to game, this is not the budget for it.
Insist on 16GB, or at least an accessible RAM slot
8GB soldered is the single most common regret in this band — Chrome plus Teams plus a spreadsheet exhausts it now, not later. Either buy 16GB or confirm there is a free SODIMM slot before you commit.
The screen is the thing you look at for four years
Full HD IPS is the floor. Avoid TN panels entirely, and prefer a stated 250-nit brightness or better, or you will be unable to use it near a window.
NVMe SSD, no hard disk
Any configuration still shipping a 1TB spinning drive as primary storage is selling you a machine that boots in a minute. A 512GB NVMe is worth more than a terabyte of HDD.
What to avoid
- Celeron and Pentium processors — they are sold in this range and should not be.
- "Upgradeable to 32GB" marketing on a model where both slots are already filled with 4GB sticks you will have to throw away.
- Buying without checking weight if it is going to college daily. 2.3kg feels very different from 1.6kg by week three.
