Best smartphones under ₹15,000
Updated 16 August 2026
This is the most competitive price band in India and the one where spec sheets mislead most. A 108MP camera on a ₹13,000 phone will be beaten by a good 50MP sensor; a 6000mAh battery means little if the processor is inefficient. Three things decide whether you are happy in two years: the chipset, the display, and how long the brand ships updates.
What to look for under ₹15,000
The chipset matters more than anything else
Aim for a current-generation Snapdragon 6-series or a Dimensity 7000-series. These carry the phone for the full three years; older 4-series and Helio chips feel slow within a year, whatever the RAM figure says.
Take the AMOLED, not the higher refresh rate
If you must choose between a 120Hz LCD and a 90Hz AMOLED at this price, take the AMOLED. Contrast and outdoor brightness are what you notice daily; the extra 30Hz you stop noticing in a week.
Check the stated update policy before you buy
Some brands now commit to two OS upgrades and three years of security patches under ₹15,000, others to none. It is printed on the product page and it is the difference between a phone that is safe to bank on in 2029 and one that is not.
Ignore "virtual RAM"
It is storage being used as swap. It does not make the phone faster and it does consume storage. 6GB of real RAM beats 4GB + 8GB virtual every time.
What to avoid
- Phones with a headline camera megapixel count and no mention of the sensor — a big number on a tiny sensor is worse than a smaller number on a good one.
- Buying at launch price. Phones in this band drop 10-15% within eight weeks; set a price alert instead.
- 4GB RAM in 2026. It is enough today and painful in eighteen months.
